IN DEPTH ANALYSIS OF BUSINESS SYSTEMS ACROSS VARIOUS COUNTRIES
While this was a text book for one of my courses during my MBA, once I started reading this, I realised this is much more than just another business school text book. The initial pages on capitalism can be a bit heavy for someone not interested in economics and business, the following chapters on various forms of capitalism across the world should be an eye opener to functioning of the global markets. Ever wondered why certain countries have a larger concentration of heavy industries, high end manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, technology and financial services. The chapters on state co-ordination and finance systems should answer most of those queries.
Capitalisms in East Asia
The one chapter I enjoyed the most was that on capitalisms in East Asia. The various aspects of business systems across South Korea, Taiwan and Japan are very well explained using real examples. Also the transformations is late socialist states Hungary and Slovenia are cleverly explained. What would be really interesting is a similar book on the developmental model in China, which has grown to the world's second largest economy in less than three decades. What makes it even more interesting is that the capitalistic policies are taken by the communist state. It is a hotly debated topic as to whether China offers a better developmental model than the west.
